Backpack - Huichol Art
Huichol art yarn backpacks are traditional handcrafted pieces of the Huichol culture, an indigenous ethnic group living in the mountainous region of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Mexico.
These backpacks are hand-woven using ancestral techniques and are adorned with colorful and symbolic designs typical of Huichol iconography, which often include geometric figures, sacred animals such as the deer and eagle, as well as symbols of nature and deities important to their cosmovision.
The yarns used to make these backpacks are carefully selected and interwoven to create intricate and vibrant patterns. These backpacks are not only functional as bags or backpacks, but also represent a traditional art form that reflects the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Huichol people. In addition to the backpacks, the Huichol spinning and embroidery technique is applied to a variety of other handcrafted creations, such as masks, decorated jícaras and chaquiras sculptures.
