Description
Nierika (worsted board) - Arte Huichol
The "nierikas" are important ritual and spiritual art objects in the Huichol culture. They are also known as "tablas de estambre" in Spanish. These pieces are usually made of wood, covered with beeswax or resin and then decorated with brightly colored threads, representing motifs and symbols significant to Huichol cosmology.
Nierikas or yarn boards have a deep religious and cultural significance for the Huichol, as they are used in religious ceremonies and healing rituals. The designs and patterns on the nierikas often represent natural elements such as the sun, moon, stars, sacred animals such as the deer and snake, as well as geometric and spiritual symbols.
These worsted boards are not only considered visually stunning works of art, but also sacred objects that connect the Huichol people to their worldview and spiritual traditions.
